{"id":3577,"date":"2017-11-07T15:06:48","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T14:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tropheejulesverne.org\/?p=3577"},"modified":"2017-11-07T18:06:34","modified_gmt":"2017-11-07T17:06:34","slug":"nouvelle-tentative-spindrift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tropheejulesverne.org\/en\/nouvelle-tentative-spindrift\/","title":{"rendered":"SPINDRIFT RACING CONFIRMS CREW AND START OF STANDBY FOR NEW SPEED RECORD ATTEMPT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On 6 november 2017 Spindrift Racing, the France-based sailing team will be starting the stand-by period for its second attempt on the Jules Verne Trophy, the iconic non-stop round the world record.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3597\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3597\" style=\"width: 1600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3597\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tropheejulesverne.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/spindriftracing_70913386_Medium.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Chris Schmid \/ Spindrift racing\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tropheejulesverne.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/spindriftracing_70913386_Medium.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.tropheejulesverne.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/spindriftracing_70913386_Medium-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tropheejulesverne.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/spindriftracing_70913386_Medium-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tropheejulesverne.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/spindriftracing_70913386_Medium-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Chris Schmid \/ Spindrift racing<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Spindrift\u2019s skipper, Yann Guichard (FRA), has carefully selected a crew of eleven sailors who bring with them a depth of sailing experience from the worlds of Figaro, Olympics and racing multihulls.\u00a0 His crew include seven who formed part of the first attempt on the record, with the other five bringing multiple complementary skills to the team.<\/p>\n<p>The current Jules Verne Trophy record, set by Francis Joyon and his crew last winter, stands at 40 days, 23 hours and 30 minutes, and Spindrift has spent much of the past two years optimising its 40-metre maxi-trimaran, Spindrift 2, in Brittany to take on this new challenge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Twelve on board<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Joining the team are Thierry Chabagny (FRA) just returned from a Solitaire and a Fastnet in the Figaro, Ewen Le Clech (FRA), who rejoins the trimaran having worked on updating it with Pascal Bid\u00e9gorry in 2010.\u00a0 Britain&#8217;s Sam Goodchild joined Yann Guichard on the match-race circuit this season, having spent two years racing offshore trimarans.\u00a0 Also joining is Thomas Le Breton (FRA), a former member of the French Olympic team in the Laser and then the Finn, who has recently returned from Bermuda where he was a tactician for the French challenge in the America&#8217;s Cup. Finally, completing this group are Tanguy Cariou, ex-member of the French Olympic team and crew in D35, who will be on the first part of the stand-by, and then Erwan Le Roux (part of the Spindrift 2 crew for the Transat Qu\u00e9bec-Saint Malo) will take over from November 26, 2017, when he returns from the Transat Jacques Vabre.<\/p>\n<p>This five-man squad will join Yann Guichard and six crew from the 2015 attempt.
