But they didn\u2019t need to wait that far: after three grueling days, the Idec Sport team has established a good position and can finally breathe a little.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>A departure is always very emotional, and this one was brutal<\/em>,\u201d reported Cl\u00e9ment Surtel on Wednesday. \u201c<em>We\u2019re doing well. We\u2019ve avoided much of the wind. The sea is calming down. We\u2019re on track and dealing with a few minor squalls. We\u2019re fighting to get out of the squalls. We\u2019re happy with our average. We need to make a few repairs but nothing serious. We\u2019re just starting to have normal meals \u2013 eggs and bacon for me this morning.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conditions are improving and the sun has appeared to the delight of the six sailors on board the maxi-trimaran, now heading south at a very decent average of 30 knots. For now, Cl\u00e9ment Surtel says that he\u2019s \u201c<em>not paying too much attention to time gaps<\/em>\u201d.
